At theeyecarecompany, we understand that everyone's eyes are different. We specialise in fitting contact lenses to the most challenging of eyes and prescriptions including Orthokeratology, keratoconus, high astigmatism, multifocal contact lenses, cosmetic or post surgical lenses, high amounts of shortsightedness or longsightedness.
In varying cases, we may prescribe specialised lenses for your eyes to maximise your vision and improve your quality of life.
Orthokeratology is one of the procedures at the forefront of shortsightedness control; it has been clinically proven in various university studies to slow down or even in some cases stop the shortsightedness from worsening. It involves the use of a hard contact lenses which is worn overnight when sleeping only. Not only does it help to control the prescription, but it also neutralises the existing shortsighted prescription to enable the wearer to not need glasses or contact lenses during the day in most cases. Keratoconus is an eye condition where the shape of the cornea, the clear window at the front part of the eye, thins out in a particular area resulting in an irregular cone-like pattern compared to the normal expected round shape. This irregular surface causes distortions to the vision which at a certain point cannot be rectified with spectacles or soft contact lenses. Keratoconus is also just one of the eye conditions that causes an irregularly shaped cornea. Other conditions such as Pellucid Marginal Degeneration and Keratoglobus.
To restore vision as much as possible, we prescribe hard contact lenses to create a 'brand new' surface for the eye to look through. The hard contact lenses neutralises all the distortions to the cornea to enable the clearest vision possible with keratoconus. At theeyecarecompany, we prescribe and specialise in different types of hard contact lenses for keratoconus such as Limbal Lift or Rose K2 RGP lenses. Come in to see one of our professional optometrists to discuss what options are suitable for you.
For those who have high prescriptions, spectacles may be difficult to adjust to and the thickness of the lenses may not be very appealing. For these people, the option of contact lenses would definitely enhance vision and quality of life especially with outdoor activities such as sports and time spent with family and friends.
Soft contact lenses usually come in a certain range of prescriptions and most people with high prescriptions may be hard to find lenses unless they are custom made to order. However the comfort of soft contact lenses may still be a viable and excellent option for those with high prescriptions as it gives them freedom from their glasses. If you do have a high prescription, come visit us at theeyecarecompany to discuss your options in soft contact lenses.
Hard contact lenses are also an excellent option for those with high amounts of astigmatism, shortsightedness or longsightedness. Hard contact lenses can provide better vision as they form a 'brand new' surface on the front part of the eyes and can cancel any irregularities of the shape of the front of the eyes. These hard lenses can be minisclerals, KATT lenses, Tricurve RGPs which we specialise in the fitting of at theeyecarecompany.
In some cases, there may be a need for the comfort of the soft contact lenses combined with the clarity of a hard contact lens. We also specialise in hybrid lenses that give the best of both these worlds. These lenses, SynergEyes Duette, consist of a hard contact lens centre for the vision clarity, surrounded by a soft contact lens ring to enhance the comfort of these lenses. To know more about these lenses and how to can help with your vision please call us or come in to arrangement an appointment with one of our optometrists.
